C is for The Cat in the Hat
For this, my third year doing the challenge, I am going literary. For every letter of the alphabet I will talk about a book, an author or a character from fiction or myth that made an impression, was inspirational, or caused me to think.
Today is easy for me. The Cat in the Hat remains an all time favorite picture book. (There is another one and it will be covered by the letter E.)
I know some people are horrified by the mayhem, but I love it. And the lesson at the end, that we must be responsible for cleaning up the messes we make, is delivered loud and clear without any preaching.
Dr. Seuss was a genius.
I'm so in love with The Cat in the Hat I have this t-shirt and blue denim shirt and Christmas hat.
I'm so in love with The Cat in the Hat that I have these window sticker thingies stuck to the window above my computer.
I'm so in love with the Cat in the Hat that my cousin John and I are still affectionately known by our families as Thing 1 and Thing 2.
Do you have a favorite Dr. Seuss book or character?
C is for The Cat in the Hat Other C influences: A Child's Garden of Verses, Cannery Row.

This was the first book Monster Child ever read by herself. Followed by One Fish Two Fish, and The Lorax. Love Dr. Seuss
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Dr. Seuss books are On Beyond Zebra! and The 500 Hats of Bartholemew Cubbins. When I was kid, of course I also loved the three best-known Seusses: The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish!
ReplyDeleteGreen Eggs and Ham!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually watching The Cat in the Hat right now! With my kids, of course. :)
ReplyDeleteHonestly, growing up, I hated that book. I thought the cat was soooo mean to try to get the kids into trouble. :P
Dr. Seuss was not the influence in UK that he has been in the States but I had a couple for my children and enjoyed the rhythm and the silliness and the sense in them.
ReplyDeleteI taught all my kids to read using these books. The Cat in the Hat was always the first book they would read. Great choice. :-) (Are you Thing 1 or Thing 2?
ReplyDeleteSr. Seuss is AMAZING. I seriously idolize him. Did you know he invented the word nerd - or at least used it for the first time in print. Awesome. Great post.
ReplyDeleteDr Seuss was sheer genius. My kids loved this!
ReplyDeleteWow, is it that time of the year again? I've followed your A-Z adventures before and I look forward to do so this year.
ReplyDeleteMy kids and I adore Dr. Suess. What a classic.
ReplyDeleteahhh, it doesn't get any better than that, does it?
ReplyDeletelove it!
Oooh.. my C word was "Cat" too, but not regarding a book :) LOL!
ReplyDeleteLove those tees.
I loved reading this book to my children and I love it now to my grandkids. The words just flow so fabulously from the lips.
ReplyDeleteNow we need a picture of you in that outfit!
ReplyDeleteMy husband loves the Cat in the Hat. We didn't have any of those books when I was a kid. Too many wonderful books left over for me from my siblings. But now I like the Cat in the Hat too!
ReplyDeleteHeh. This is the second Cat in the Hat post I've seen. I have to say I enjoyed the book more as a child than as a parent.

I love The Cat in the Hat! Such a great story. And A Child's Garden of Verses is one of my all-time favorites. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Golden Eagle
The Eagle's Aerial Perspective
I don't have a particular favorite. They're all fun. And yes, he was a genius.

ReplyDeleteReminds me of the early days cartoon by Disney :-)
ReplyDeleteHands down, it's "Green Eggs and Ham" for my favorite. I bought a copy for all the kids, grandkids and friends kids. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI was surprisingly neutral on Dr. Seuss. I did like To Think THat I Saw it On Mulberry Street. I'm trying to visit all the A-Z Challenge blogs in April.
ReplyDeleteHe was a genius. Sometimes I reread his books. I love his stuff. I haven't purchased any merchandise, though.
ReplyDeleteThe girls still have all their Dr. Seuss books on the bookshelf. They still read them, too :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, Bish, I love cheerfully disagreeing with you about The Cat in the Hat. I hate it. :D
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Seuss books are the Grinch and The Sneetches. Oh, and I love the Horton books.
However, I do have a cat in the hat hat in Green Bay Packers green and gold.
