Mentorship with Angela

And I come to the end of my wonderful time of learning with Angela over at The Bookshelf Muse.

But that does not mean the journey is over, not by a long shot.

Here are some of things Angela did for me (in no particular order):
1. Line edited/critiqued a novel.
2. Critiqued a second novel.
3. In the case of 1 and 2 she had wonderful insights and offered many suggestions for making my novels MUCH better.
4. Helped with a query letter.
5. Offered suggestions and helped with an agent search.
6. Made suggestions about where I might find some Beta readers.
7. Sent links to helpful sites (I pass them on below.)
8. And lastly, she bravely suffered through a time of crisis when I seriously thought about giving up, throwing in the towel, calling it quits. SHE did not give up on me. And so, I go on.

I really cannot say enough about Angela. She who has a family, a thriving blog, books of her own to write and revise and who knows what all else going on in her life, had time for me; gives her time generously to those who win critiques. I am humbled and honored.

Thank you, my dear.

Here are the links (some of these you may know):

Renaissance Learning (type in the title and get info like word count, age, grade/reading level.)

BookFinder (another place to find books similar to the one you're writing.)

So, what have you learned in the last month or two to three?

Thanks for the links - some interesting ones to follow.

Thanks to the creative writing course I'm doing I've also learnt quite a bit about my writing in the last month or three! The POV module was the best and I'll be doing a post on it towards to the end February!

Good luck with finishing your ms.

  7. Bish, I think you are a wonderful student, who will take these lessons and apply them to future works as well ...

I'm revising right now and know it IS work to make those stories shine.

I've learned that I can live on four hours of sleep again :)

  12. I'm so glad you had such a productive experience with a fabulous mentor. Best of luck submitting your work. I'm sure it's bound to catch an editor or agents eye any day now!

Unfortunately I haven't learned much over the the last few months except that having patience isn't easy and staying positive isn't always easy either. I'm hanging in there, though. ~sigh~

    Great post!

  14. Bish, you are too kind. It was such a pleasure to work with you, and I hope that I did help in some small way. You have some amazing talent and I know that if you keep going, you will succeed.
