Random Thought Thursday

She was Albanian.

She left home at the age of eighteen.

She studied for a short three months in Ireland before embarking on a journey that would take her deep into the heart of poverty.

She won the Nobel Peace Prize.

She has been beatified.

Today's quote is from Mother Teresa.

Do not allow yourselves to be disheartened by any failure as long as you have done your best .

I struggle not to be disheartened, to not think of myself as a failure. The truth is I am riddled with doubt and uncertainty.

What about you?

  1. I always try to keep the failure thoughts at bay. They tend to be very destructive if left to roam my thoughts...

She was a truly wise lady.

  2. Ditto. I constantly struggle with self-doubt, but I'm working on it. I'm trying to remember that it's okay to not be perfect. :)

  4. I have found that if you're struggling with doubt and uncertainty, you're not working toward your goals. So any time you start doing that - go work on something. Anything. If you can't work directly on a goal, get some house or yardwork out of the way so you can't use doing those things as procrastination devices.

All you can do is the best you can do; so, sooner or later, the best you can do has to be good enough.

  5. It's a hard thing to do, to realize. But once you do, you'll never do anything quite the same way again.

  6. Ah -- so we're both off the hook and on it. Many of us have heard "If you've done your best, it's all you/we can ask," and that's true. But looking a little deeper: If we've not done our best, that's when regret comes with failure. Doing our best really magnifies in importance.

  9. People I know who do great work all struggle with self-doubt. A certain of level of it may actually be healthy. Hang in there, everyone who is uncertain of what they do!

  10. Incredible quote, incredible photo. As for doubts, I've come to accept it's part of the creative personality. That's not to say I like it, just that I've accepted it as the price to pay for being creative. (giving a philosphical shrug!) John Keats (I think) once said something in one of his letters about needing to live with uncertainty if one's a poet, (wish I could find the proper quote)so we're in good company! :)

  11. She put her trust and faith in God. When I was reading her biography I couldn't believe how she jumped into the abyss knowing that God will provide ... over and over and over again.

Beautiful woman on the inside and out. Thanks for that wonderful quote.

  12. Wonderful post! Wonderful quote! Self doubt is a part of life, I think. Self acceptance is always the goal, isn't it?
