Blog Schedule

I post on Monday with an occasional random blog thrown in for good measure. I do my best to answer all comments via email and visit around on the days I post.

Mentorship with Angela - An Update

Yes, I'm still unplugged.

I sent my mentor Angela the first three rewritten chapters of my novel and got them back.

Sigh...LOTS more red ink. The woman is killing me!

I must admit to a feeling like I've had the wind knocked out of me. Oooof!

It's a good thing I have a craft show this week-end to distract me for a couple of days. I will return to the work of revising Monday, at which point I'll no doubt have a clearer head.

Is this what it's like to have an editor?

To help keep me calm, from going over the edge into the "I QUIT!" mode, I gathered together pictures of cairns I've built, most of which are long gone. They remind me of how beautiful and ephemeral everything is. Nothing lasts, nothing stays the same. Not even my words on the page.

Enjoy.

  1. It's a good plan to have a break for a few days and when you go back the red ink won't seem so bad or so much! :)

    Enjoy the crafts show.

  2. Those cairns are beautiful. I'm going to have to make some with Monster Baby. We have rocks in the furrows on the back forty. I'll have to dig some up.

As for red ink. I know EXACTLY how you feel. My critter just poured it onto the page. I nearly had a heart attack when I first saw it but you know, 98% of his suggestions were spot on. It's hard but it's so worth it in the end. You can do it Bish. Don't worry. I have all the faith in the world. Just take it one line at a time.

  3. It's always good to take a break and catch your breath. Just remember, that every little red mark has the potential to help you make your story even better than it already is! I believe that it takes a village to make a great story. ; )

  4. Writing pretty much IS revision.

That's why I have so many beginnings and so much incomplete work...give me the bright and shiny new beginnings and you can keep the revision. But it's necessary, even if it does seem so chore-like. Good luck with it!

  5. LOVE the cairns. They just kind of beg you to stare at them a while and figure out what it all means.

And I have to echo Anne. So many beginnings and so much incomplete work. But I do like revision. It's the first draft that kills me.
