Writing Prompts - Affirmations

I'm traveling today...winging my way homeward....

I collect writing exercises that help court the muse, prime the pump, and stir the imagination. I thought, while I'm away, I would share some of them with you every Monday and Friday. Hopefully some of these journaling techniques and writing exercises will be new to you.

Most of the writing prompts I will be posting work around a short time-frame; two and half, five, ten minutes. Some people look at their blank sheets of paper and think they have to journal, or whatever, for at least a half hour. Or that they have to write at least three pages every day. That can cause them to freeze up and not write anything. Throw that idea out with the unrecyclable trash. The point is, if you are really feeling stuck, to remember you only need to write for two and half to five minutes. Usually once you get started, you'll discover yourself going into overtime and filling up pages in your journal.

Enjoy. And remember to have fun!

Today's prompt:

Write down affective, positive affirmations starting with the words “I am.”

As in: I am enjoying journaling. I am appreciative of the air I breathe. I am liking this idea of only writing for two and half minutes.

Spend two and a half to five minutes writing about your affirmation: as in how it makes you feel, what you think about it, how it affects you etc. If the flow is going, keep writing.

I am picturing you wrapped in the island's warm embrace, looking for sea turtles, savoring sweet fruit and letting the music wash over you.

  3. Have a wonderful, safe trip, Bish!
I like the idea of having a timed time to write.
I am going to exercise today even though it is so hot out. I am going to write a fabulous scene in my book today. I might even clean the house. ;)

  4. Have a great trip!

I like the idea of 2 1/2 minutes. We often hear 10, but I think even that can be threateningly long sometimes.

  5. Personally, I am ecstatic at the thought of finishing the semester. It's hard to be anything but positive when I remember that.

Have a good trip back, Bish. And have some fruit and fish for me!
