Tagged!

Tricia over at Tailspinning has tagged me with a bunch of interesting writerly questions. Let's see what I can make up. :)

1) What's the last thing you wrote? What's the first thing you wrote that you still have? The last thing I wrote was a crazy novel for the November NaNo challenge. As for the first thing I wrote that I still have? Goodness, I've got most everything I wrote since about the age of 15 or 16. I still remember the very first thing I wrote when I was 8, but unfortunately that piece of of literature is long gone.

2) Write poetry? Oh, I've tried my hand (pencil) at it, and I've always wanted to be a poet, but I do not consider myself a poet. I want to write like William Butler Yeats, but ya know...I'm just not that good.

3) Angsty poetry? Indeed. Tons of it, from my teens. Terrible.

4) Favorite genre of writing? Probably fantasy with those dreaded talking animals. I have been hopelessly (and delightfully) influenced by L. Frank Baum.

5) Most annoying character you've ever created? That would be a character from my just finished NaNo novel who is totally self-centered and vain in a totally hilarious way.

6) Best plot you've ever created? They are all my best, and, I'm still working on making them better.

7) Coolest plot twist you've ever created? Plots are supposed to have twists? I did not know that....

8) How often do you get writer's block? I don't get writer's block. I get writer's clog because I have so many ideas it's hard for me to focus on one thing long enough to get it written down.

9) Write fan fiction? Is that like writing with a fan on to keep me cooled down because I'm just SO hot? (No, I don't.)

10) Do you type or write by hand? I type. However I take lots of notes and write out loose outlines in longhand, with a faithful Clicker pencil. LOVE my Clicker.

11) Do you save everything you write? Yes, as my overstuffed file cabinet will attest. It regularly yells at me that it's getting too fat and that I need to put it on a diet. And I regularly promise that I will and then don't.

12) Do you ever go back to an idea after you've abandoned it? Definitely.

13) What's your favorite thing you've ever written? Gosh, too many to single out. But if I were tortured and forced to name one, it would have to be that story about a lizard, no wait...about that ghost, no wait...about that pig, yeah that's the one, not wait...about that kid, no wait...about

14) What's everyone else's favorite story you've written? Those who have had the joy of reading what I've written have all liked my lizard story.

15) Ever written romance or angsty teen drama? I'm not much up for angsty teen drama/romance.

16) What's your favorite setting for your characters? Where ever my characters happen to be is my favorite setting for them.

17) How many writing projects are you working on right now? Too many to count, and none at all. Inotherwords, I have a bunch of stuff that needs to/is being revised/worked on, but nothing new is currently being written.

18) Have you ever won an award for your writing? Alas, sigh, no.

19) What are your five favorite words? I only get to pick five? Idiotsyncrasy, aquaticmarine, plimple, camerasutra, virgindile

20) What character have you created that is most like yourself? They all carry a piece of my DNA, but which piece is always up for debate; my great beauty? my charismatic charm? my Wilde-like wit? (yeah right....)

21) Where do you get your ideas for your characters? I don't "get" them, they get me.

22) Do you ever write based on your dreams? I have yes, incorporated bits of dreams into stories but I can't say I've ever based a whole story on a dream.

23) Do you favor happy endings? I do. Life is so full of all that other stuff why add to it? I have absolutely no problem with the princess being carried away by the prince. We need all the help we can get to strive for the happy ending in our lives, so why not put it in a book?

24) Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write? I tend to edit as I go, so I suppose I have to answer yes to that question. But it's not like I have a huge all consuming need to get it right the first time.

25) Does music help you write? No, it's a distraction. I like to have things pretty quiet so I can hear what my characters have to say, so I can see/experience what they are seeing/experiencing.

26) Quote something you've written. Whatever pops in your head. Well, nothing popped into my head, so I offer this opening from my NaNo book, which is called Pandemonium Rules.

There are no rules save those the Coacervation has determined are needed. Over the millennia various constitutions, codes of law, rules and regulations, cannons, books on ethics, and a near infinite number of methods of governance have all been written, tried and scrapped.

In Pandemonium that long era of experimentation is called the Dark Ages, or the Age of Trial and Error.

Eventually an unofficial, unelected group of nine non-rulers called the Coacervation came into existence. It was they who finally determined that Pandemonium needed only two rules. They have never been written down.

Rule Number One
It is the function of the Coacervation to keep safe the Kohanoor.
Rule Number Two
Have fun.

And now I'm supposed to tag a few other people. I hope they forgive me.

  7. So many interesting things here. I know what you mean about loving everything you wrote. I think each story I write is a little piece of me. Even if they aren't all perfect!

  8. Yep, Lee, a lot of questions. But I discovered they were fun to answer.

Thanks Tricia. As for the Kohanoor, it is a thing, not a who, a very important object around which the story depends.

Yippy, Vijaya! I was hoping you'd play. I am so looking forward to reading your answers.

    Thanks V.S.

Davin, thanks for stopping by. I love making up words or twisting them around or otherwise intentionally mangling the language for laughs. It all comes from being a bad speller.

  9. I have fun Kelly. I think they are questions we could all ask ourselves.

Thanks Nora. If you noticed I kind of sent this thing off to published writers. I thought these would be neat questions your readership might want to know.

Christina, yep. I love 'em all, even some of my really bad pieces from when I was teen-ager. There's history there.
