Today in History and an Award

I was really going to try to NOT say anything, but it's just unavoidable because I really want to share these two facts.

1. The U. S. Virgin Islands were the first to make Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday a holiday.

2. The governor has declare today Barac Obama Day. Government offices are closed as well as schools. You can read about it here.

On to other things.

Adrienne, over at The Story Board, has nominated me for...drum roll please...
The Kreativ Blogger (award)
I'm tickled PINK! Thanks Adrienne
All I have to do is list seven (7) things I love and then pass this award on to seven (7) "Kreativ" people. I'm not going to list that I love my family, because that should be a given. They are the most important thing in my life.
It's hard to decide on just seven things. But here it goes, seven things I love.
1. Having five senses with which I can see, touch, taste, smell and hear this wonderful, miraculous world.
2. Mother Ocean out of which all life came. The salt content in our blood and in our tears and other bodily fluids is the same percentage as that of the ocean. While we grew in our mother's bellies we lived and breathed in an ocean.
3. Clouds. Each day I do my best to remember to LOOK UP and notice the decorations. I am particularly fond of mare's tails, though big huge cumulus clouds can be mighty spectacular.
4. Mockingbirds and sparrows. I love not only the varied song of the mockingbird, but also how they sing. They perch on the very top of a tree or light pole and then while singing will leap straight up, as if leaping for joy. They are the only bird that does this. As for sparrows, I love how they gather at different times of the day and chitter and chirp and twitter and tweet among themselves as if they were gossiping and telling each other all the latest news.
5. Trees. They have played a significant roll in my life, which (if you are so inclined) you can read about on this blog. I have often wondered why we do not love/treat our aged and gnarly human elders the way we love/treat our aged and gnarly trees.
6. Rocks. I have a deep fondness for rocks. I like to stack them into cairns, I like to collect them. I like to think they are conscious at some very deep level, which I call Rock Consciousness.
7. The Beatles. In the short 10 years they were together, they changed the sound and face of music. Now, nearly 40 years later, even their earliest work remains timeless, and their songs have become (dare I say it?) iconic and instantly recognizable.
And now...to whom do I pass on this award who has not already been chosen? If you have already been chosen...so be it.

  6. Great list!

I love trees too, especially really old, dead ones that are still standing. One of these days I'm going to make a slideshow of tree pictures. Exciting, I know! LMHO!

    Congrats Bish!

Angela, I think a part of me would always be missing if there weren't mockingbirds. As for rock consciousness, it moves v......e......r......y s....l....o....w....l.......y It's sense of time is probably close to non-existent.
