Posting the first Wednesday of every month, The Insecure Writer's Support Group, is the brainchild of Alex Cavanaugh. YOU can sign up HERE to participate.
To change things up a bit, every month, we'll announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG Day post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.
Let's give our co-hosts a warm welcome! C. Lee McKenzie, Rachel Pattison, Elizabeth Seckman, Stephanie Faris, Lori L MacLaughlin, and Elsie Amata!
Today's question is: How do you find the time to write in your busy day?
I don't have any excuses. I'm retired. I can write or not write whenever I damn well please, or feel like it, or not. I've never been one of those sit-down-every-day-at-such-and-such-a-time-and-write-for-X-amount-of-time-or-until-I-have-X-number-of words. I used to feel guilty about that, but not any more. When I am writing, I'm rather prolific. When I'm not...well, I'm not, and I don't sweat it.
It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.
As for other news... I'm pleased to say that some loose goals I set for myself have been met. (I'm not big on making goals.) All the guest posts I committed to for my October Book Tour (except for one) have been written and sent to my various hosts. I have quite a line-up that I'm rather excited about. Every post will be different, even if the subject is the same. I hope when October comes you'll hop around with me. I'll let you know where I'll be when the time comes.
Also, I'm doing my first Goodreads giveaway for The Bowl and the Stone, which you can enter HERE, and which ends on September 30th. Also, come October I'll be doing my first Rafflecopter in which you have another chance to win an autographed copy of my book.
All in all, I'm not feeling so insecure these days. How about you?

Are you excited about the next IWSG anthology contest? Are you going to enter? Is it easy or hard for you to find time to write?
Super exciting times! I'm so excited for your book release.
ReplyDeleteI love that attitude of not stressing, no matter where your writing is at. That's definitely healthy--especially since stress is the muse killer.
I am too and letting people know what kind of cheese I like!
DeleteI'm go and go and go, so no stopping for me. LOL
ReplyDeleteYou're an inspiration!
DeleteOn my post, you had a good question about formatting for the anthology. Alex and Diane never mentioned that, so stick with the standard for everything TNR or Arial size 12 font, double spaced. :)
ReplyDeleteSlow and steady wins the race, right?
Thanks, Chrys. I asked Diane and she cleared it up for me. Slow and steady, here.
DeleteCongratulations Bish .. on all your projects - being ahead of the pack with the book tour posts ... and then GoodReads ... go for it .. and cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI can sort of relax this month before the deluge hits! :D
DeleteCongratulations on meeting some of your goals. It's not always easy.
ReplyDeleteNo, it isn't. But when you get there it feels so nice!
DeleteReady to rock your release next month.
ReplyDeleteAnd a rolling stone gathers no moss...
Thanks Alex! It's gonna a be quite a tour.
DeleteCongrats on your upcoming release. If you want some free promo, contact me. I'd love to have you on my blog.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Diane. I'll contact you! The more the merrier.
DeleteCongrats on your upcoming release!
ReplyDeleteMy philosophy has always been that we must MAKE time; we don't FIND time.
Very true. Time will always be there, but I/we will not. We have only a limited amount of it, so we much decide how to use it.
DeleteSlow and steady! I can relate to that. It seems the best way to approach a lot of things in life. Good luck, Bish. I know you'll have great success with your launch.
ReplyDeleteYup, one thing at a time and soon there's a light at the end of the tunnel. I just have to remember, the light is no an illusion, the tunnel is!

ReplyDeleteHI, Bish,
ReplyDeleteI agree... I'm not one for setting a set time. I go with my heart and my soul. If I want to write, I do... sadly I haven't wanted to lately.... BUT... with this fantastic new anthology, I may just come out from under my crater... LOL
CONGRATS on you lovely new book! SO COOOOL! ALL the best.
Looking forward to your tour!
The words will come back to you, Michael.
DeleteHey you're on top of your game! Doesn't it feel good to know you've done what you were supposed to do? Now it's time for you to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Congrats on the tour!
ReplyDeleteIt does indeed feel good to be able to breathe for a bit as I wait for the crush.
DeleteI like that quote. And I like that you aren't feeling insecure at the moment. It's a great place to be. Sounds like you are on top of everything.
ReplyDeleteNo insecurity here, all the hard work's been done.
DeleteYou're me! I'm retired, have no kids, and have all the time in the world. Why then don't I write much? Umm...just because. I also have a book coming out in Oct and have promised people interviews and guest posts. I've only finished 3 of 9 though. Have to do the rest before the end of the month, plus proof the galley soon. No time for working on my WIP. Maybe in Oct...or Nov...
ReplyDeleteI think we are very much alike, Lexa. I'd be happy to help out with you launch if you like.
DeleteSounds you are exactly where you should be. Awesome goals too. All the best!
ReplyDeleteI am right where I need to be. Thanks for stopping by Olivia Rose. (What a lovely name!)
DeleteI totally agree, Karen.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on achieving your goals, it's always nice when we do!
ReplyDeleteI am seriously trying to get my lazy butt back in the chair and reenter the blogging world. I had fully intended to post for this month's IWSG but obviously did not make it. Nonetheless, I'm making the effort to hop around and visit some old friends and look for inspiration and motivation, so I came here.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that your book is being published and will look for the posts and the finished product (no thanks to me-sorry about that. I'm like you and probably have too much time on my hands and therefore get nothing done.
Congratulations on meeting your goals, Bish. I know how wonderful that feels. Strange, but I don't see myself as retired. Probably because there aren't enough hours in the day. I need several more. I suspect everyone does too. Thanks for your offer. Best to you!
ReplyDeleteLove the quote. Congrats on making your goals. Glad you found a way to write that works for you.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your upcoming release!
ReplyDeleteFrom your words above, I get the sense that you're in a good place at this stage of your life. That's a real blessing.
So excited for you on your upcoming release. Yeah! Love that you can write whenever you want. What a treat! :) Good luck with all of the fun things you have going on.
ReplyDelete~Jess
Good luck with your book launch... exciting times!
ReplyDeleteI'm very happy with my writing projects at the moment too. :)

Congratulations on all your goals! All the best with the book launch!
ReplyDeleteI do plan on entering the IWSG contest. I need to start writing the story today, if I still have the energy after returning a backlog of comments, that is.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your blog book tour. That story deserves lots and lots of readers.
