Really, what writer doesn't make lists? And if you haven't, or don't, can you really be considered a writer? Ooops, hope I haven't offended any listless people....
Although I've been listing since I was in high school, it wasn't until I read Ray Bradbury's book ZEN IN THE ART OF WRITING that I became aware of the importance of listing in the creative process.
You can read what Mr. Bradbury has to say about lists HERE. If you haven't read his book I strongly suggest you do.
This fest will be so easy and fun it should probably be a crime.
The rules are simple. All you have to do is sign up in the linky thingy below, grab the banner, and make a list. I suggest you keep your list to between 5 and 25 items long. We'll visit each other on October 26th.
You can list whatever you feel like (except for adult type content). That's it! Of course, if you'd like to help spread the word, I'm not going to fuss at you.
And, if this bloghop does well, it will become an annual October event!
Think about it, the ideas are endless.
You could list:
favorite trees/animals/flowers/insects/pets
favorite books/movies/actors/heroes/villains/music/concerts you've been to
places you'd like to go/places you've been to
make a bucket list
favorite food/desserts/drinks
favorite names
favorite scientists/mathematicians/artists
favorite activists/saints/prophets
favorite myths/mythological places/gods/goddesses
your morning/evening routine
important things to pack when going on vacation
what to take on a picnic
biggest fears
greatest loves
the birthdays of your family members
holidays
things you like/dislike doing
foods you don't like to eat
pictures of your cat/dog
cars you've owned
places you've lived/schools you've attended
musical instruments you play
important moments in history you've lived through
historical eras you'd like to have lived in
famous people (dead or alive) that you'd like to meet
And there you have it, without even trying I came up with a 25 point list, listing 50 things to list about....
So how about it, care to list with me?
Question of the Month
I decided to join this monthly bloghop because answering thoughtful/challenging questions is one way to expand one's mind. Hosted by Michael D'Agostino at A Life Examined , the question this month is: “Who would play you in a movie of your life?”
I've never given this idea any serious thought. I guess I'm not vain enough. Even now, thinking about it, and knowing how Hollywood distorts things to make a story more exciting, or racier, or adventurous, I have to say I wouldn't want anyone playing me, nor would I want a movie made of my life. I guess I'm just not fascinated enough with myself, at least, not it "that" way.

Being Thankful
Today I'm thankful for butterflies.
We're seeing these lovelies (the Spicebush Swallowtail) in our yard
now that the Esperanza is blooming.
What are you thankful for? Signing up for my bloghop? Have you ever thought about someone playing you in a movie?
Nice butterfly shots!
ReplyDeleteThanks! They are among my best photographs.
DeleteI am signed up. I don't expect an movie to be made of my life and that's a good thing. Who needs that kind of drama?
ReplyDeleteThanks for signing up! I agree, don't need the drama.
DeleteCongratulations on eight years Bish that is impressive – not sure I will have the stamina to keep going for that long!
ReplyDeleteI’m thankful to all my blogging friends for keeping me happily entertained.
I never expected blogging to take me where I've gone. It's been a very interesting and rewarding experience.
DeleteRight now I'm thankful that we didn't get swept away in the torrential downpours. Sorry to say I don't do bloghops anymore, but if I were to make a list, it would be of my characters because that's easy. I already did it. As for someone playing me in a movie that would be Minnie Driver. I used to look like her when I was younger. Nice butterflies. Ours are all gone now.

DeleteI know you don't do hops any more, Anne, and that's okay! I like your choice of actress to play you.
DeleteI've signed up for the hop! I am a huge list-maker :) Also, lovely photos! And right now, I'm grateful for my mom being here to visit me!
ReplyDeleteThanks for signing up, Meradeth! Enjoy visiting with your mom.
DeleteHi Bish - I'm going to be travelling ... and am busy theoretically making lists - mostly in my head - but the place is getting clearer! Today it's raining, but it's still warmish ... we have had blissful weather recently ... love the flutterbies ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteForgot the 8 years of blogging - brilliant and congratulations ... H
DeleteSend some of that rain our way, Hilary. Oh... it's got to come all the way across the pond and half way across the U. S.! Have fun travelling!
DeleteI love lists and make lists of things all the time! Now I just have to figure out which list I want to share. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not vain but I've given this some thought because I've written about my life and always wondered what it would be like if it were made into a movie. Not sure if I would like that, but I've thought of it.
Thanks for signing up, Chrys! Yup, one has to wonder about splashing one's life across a big screen. Do I really want to see it so BIG? :D
DeleteThe blog hop sounds like fun! I have no idea what I'll do yet but I do love making lists :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining the hop! Lists: the life blood of writers!
DeleteCan't join the bloghop...too much happening in my head. Person to play me? Emma Thompson.
ReplyDeleteI understand about not being able to do hops. Emma Thompson, great choice!
DeleteI'm thankful you posted those butterfly pictures. They are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThey are among my best pictures, Liza.
DeleteLists are what keep me focused and moving ahead! Good idea to make them.
ReplyDeleteLove your butterflies. Butterflies also keep me focused and moving ahead.
What WOULD we do without lists? Why... we'd be... wait for it, listless!

This blog hop sounds fun, looking forward to all the posts!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
DeleteI signed up for the bloghop! I love lists!!
ReplyDeleteYEAH! The more the merrier!
DeleteI''m a list person so I'll be happy to participate in this. I can't imagine anyone would want to make a movie of my life. Pretty normal all around.
ReplyDeleteThanks for signing up, Susan! I was a little wild in my youth, but my life is wonderfully "boring" now. In my world, boring is good.
DeleteThat list idea is pretty intriguing. October 26 is currently one of my post days, so I'll join :)
ReplyDeleteYEAH! Thanks for signing up, Michael!
DeleteI already know the perfect list.
ReplyDeleteYour butterfly photos are gorgeous.
And I'll have to wait patiently to see what it is! Thanks for signing up, Diane!

DeleteThat butterfly is beautiful! I've never thought about anyone playing me in a movie, either. Congratulations on eight awesome years!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's vain to choose someone to play you in a movie. I chose someone. I, of course, am quite vain. I like the company of people who are vain so we can sit around together to admire ourselves.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Love those butterflies!
ReplyDeleteAdded myself to the list-- now must remember to post a list on that day.
Beautiful butterflies!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been in the blog world in a while and I miss it! So I signed up! :)
Lovely pictures and Happy Blog birthday. I've not been at this as long as you have. :D
ReplyDeleteI'd better make a list of all the things I could make a list about! I'm always making lists, so I just had to join in on the fun!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures and cool new blog hop. Sorry this month's question didn't appeal to you more, but your reasoning is sound.
ReplyDeleteI signed up and did a blog post on my blog here for promotion Juneta Writer's Gambit
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to edit the linky list on your end? I signed up and misspelled "Speculative" (28.
ReplyDeleteKatharina Gerlach - Sculative Fiction for all ages) *facepalm*
This is such a great idea that I couldn't resist signing up :) I live by lists!
ReplyDeleteI signed up. I love making lists. I make so many. I really do. I often make a list of the lists I need to make. My kids make terrible fun of me which is the main reason I'm not going to participate in the question of the month. My daughter just announced that it would be incredibly vain of me to choose an actress and divulge her name on here, for all of you to read. I explained in great detail that this is only a hypothetical question and that I, in no way, expect anyone to ever make a movie of my life. I even countered her argument with my own by asking whether or not the physical attributes had anything to do with the vanity she referred to. She huffed out of the room without answering me and before she knew who I'd selected ( before I'd given the question any serious consideration, actually). Fun question, BTW.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the bloghop and reading all of the crazy and entertaining lists. Thanks for coming up with such a creative way to blow off some steam and share our day and our thoughts.
