Songs for the Times - Part Three

I keep having this suspicion, as stock markets keep falling, that there are people out there still making money. I suspect corporate honchos because they are kings who lord it over the peons who do the work and I suspect politicians and because they like to give themselves mid-night raises with money we, the peons, send to them for the privilege of working for the honchos. These people, no matter what the financial crisis going on, will continue to live well, have great health care, be able to give their kids a good education and be able to pay their electric bill.

Meanwhile the rest of us will struggle, unless of course, we all become corporate honchos or politicians. Hmmm, what a thing to do.

Baby You’re a Rich Man – by John Lennon and Paul McCartney - The Beatles -Recorded in 1967, it appeared on the U. S. released album Magical Mystery Tour, even though it was originally supposed to be part of The Yellow Submarine soundtrack.

How does it feel to be
One of the beautiful people
Now that you know who you are
What do you want to be
And have you traveled very far
far as the eye can see

How does it feel to be
One of the beautiful people
How often have you been there
Often enough to know
What did you see when you were there
Nothing that doesn't show

Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man, too
You keep all your money in a big brown bag
inside a zoo, what a thing to do
Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man, too

How does it feel to be
One of the beautiful people
Tuned to a natural E
happy to be that way
Now that you've found another key
What are you going to play

Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man, too
You keep all your money in a big brown bag
inside a zoo, what a thing to do
Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man
Baby you're a rich man, too

  1. It's really sad, especially for the older people who lost their retirement and will have to work for the rest of their life. It's heartbreaking.

  2. I think their song Piggies is an interesting social commentary, too - it's too bad it was misinterpreted.

  3. I work in affordable housing and I see people struggling everyday to pay their bills...the elderly have to choose if they want medicine or food...the single mom has to decide if she wants to pay her rent or feed her children...

I just hope (and I know I am probably dreaming), but I hope that whichever party wins in November, that they can straighten out this mess before more people lose their homes, etc...

  4. Rena, Hubby and I sometimes wonder (you know conspiracy theory) about why this all happened right now when all us Baby Boomers are getting ready to retire. The government can't afford to pay SS to all of us. There aren't enough people working so..."let's have an economic melt-down so they can't retire yet!" Sounds like a plan to me...

Adrienne, Oh! Oh! Piggies! I forgot all about Piggies! Excellent choice.

Brenda, People should not have to choose between basic needs. And as far as I'm concerned government got us into this mess and they will NOT get us out except through ever more socialistic policies. Government owning shares in private banks? That's nationalization of banks...makes me feel uneasy.
