Today is the second anniversary of the Insecure Writer's Support Group, and my first time participating. How auspicious is that? It's not like I'm a paragon of composed confidence, I'm not. I'm just as riddled with self-doubt as everyone else. Over the past two years I've read many posts from various participants and I thought they were very brave to expose themselves. That was good for them, but me? I just couldn't do it.
Then last month someone posted this:
You doubt because you care.
That little sentence had such a profound affect on me that I did two things. 1.) I decided to sign up for IWSG and 2.) I hauled out my Anansi stories and decided I'd better get my ass is gear and get them published. What am I waiting for, the end of the world? So I got Nicole Zoltack to edit and L. Diane Wolfe will format for me because I discovered I'm all thumbs. And I've got some wonderful people who've said they'd be happy to write an endorsement. (I'm not revealing them quite yet, but to suffice it to say, I think they're pretty *large* people in the blogging/self-publishing/writing scene and I'm an extremely humbled and honored by their support.)
Edits are just about done. Gulp.
So... I've decided to show off my fabulous cover.
As Hillel the Elder said:
If I am not for myself, then who will be for me? And if I am only for myself, then what am I? And if not now, when?
What about you? Are you waiting for the cows to come home before you do something?
Bish, that is awesome!! Glad you took the plunge and you have some great people helping you. The cover is very whimsical.
ReplyDeleteAnd welcome to the IWSG!
Great to see you take the leap and join the group! Good luck with your book, the cover is great! Great quote :)
ReplyDeleteThat cover is adorable!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to helping you make it a reality.
Just stopping by from the IWSG
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the group! Glad you've decided to join us!
I totally agree about "caring" :)
xx
It's a case of faith, eh? Jump before you look, and trust that somehow everything will work out. I think that can be the hardest step, but once you get out there, it's like, "What the heck was I waiting for?"
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you took the leap, Bish. I know you feel better having done it. Looking forward to learning more about you. I'm guest hosting at the IWSG today. Happy to meet you.
ReplyDeleteCover's adorable.
ReplyDeleteI love the cover.
ReplyDeleteAs for waiting for the cows to come home? nah, but I do sometimes wait to finish a project before I start on another... sometimes... okay, I tell myself I'll wait, but I just do it anyway. I never wait.
Sigh. I'm so unprofessional.
Wow, that's a beautiful cover! Congratulations on being brave and taking that step. Wishing you all the best =)
ReplyDeleteGlad you're going for it, and I can't wait to see the finished book!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone. And a special thanks to Adrienne, whose art work has made all the difference!
ReplyDeleteLove the cover, Bish. Glad you're moving forward with this. Can't wait to read the finished product. :D
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cover, Bish!! How exciting. I wish you every success and happiness with this. And I can hardly wait until I can read it. : )
ReplyDeleteWhat a great cover! We all have to be there for ourselves. Sometimes it's difficult, but in the end, we have to believe in ourselves and dare to put ourselves out there.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! That is so fantastic! I'm so glad you're going for it.
ReplyDeleteIf not now, then when?
ReplyDeleteYes indeed. I'm glad you persevered and help arrived ...
I am plugging away on my novel revisions. It's all about the work right now.
Great cover!
Congrats, Bish! I love that crafty look on Anansi's face.
