I post on Monday with an occasional random blog thrown in for good measure. I do my best to answer all comments via email and visit around on the days I post.

Mentorship with Angela...

...and other miscellanea.

Happy New Year.

A BIG THANK YOU to those of you who stuck with me while I've been away.

Angela, my mentor and friend, suggested we take the month of December off. This lead from my being unplugged to going on hiatus because I had a bit of a melt-down in regards to my writing, wondering whether or not I want(ed) to continue, whining about being too old to get a book published, whining about how hard it is to be a decent writer. Whine, whine, whine.

Anyway, I haven't done any writing in nearly two months and I have made a few decisions.

1. I will continue my mentorship with Angela.
2. I will make every effort to blog at least twice a week, Mondays and Thursday.
3. I can't possibly read everyone's blog, I'm just too slow a reader so it takes up a great deal of precious time. However, you will see my lovely mug from time to time. (Aren't you just thrilled?)

And please, the next time I start to whine, remind me of Nick Vujicic, a most remarkable young man.

Onward through the fog.

  1. I know your pain. And then I watch that video and realize how we all have the capacity to make it better. Keep on going, keep on believing, Bish. Best wishes for 2011.

  3. You are NOT too old to write and publish a book. Who told you that so I can slap them?

And we all whine so you are now part of the club.

Don't lose faith, don't lose hope. I still want to see the crab story in print. I think that's priceless.

  4. You're never too old to write.

  5. It happens to everyone. Don't worry! You're not even too old to get published when you're dead! Never give up!

  6. You're fabulous and I'm so glad to hear that you're continuing. It's nice to know.

Looking forward to seeing your mug around town :)

  7. Hey girl! Way to go for hanging in there! We'll have to keep each going. I've been facing tons of discouragement too. My main resolution for this year is just to not let the discouragement keep me down.

I'll be here to keep cheering you on!

You're a fabulous writer, you definately need to keep at it. You have a gift that you need to share with the world.

    (((hugs)))

  8. I'm right there with ya, sista! So good to catch up with what's going on on your writing life. I was away as well, (and recommitted, once again).

You need to keep on keeping on! You're AWESOME! Muah!

    xoxo CJ

  9. Oh, but we Boomers don't age, remember?

May 2011 bring you a wealth of good things.

  10. Oh, Bish, you are an amazing writer with so much to share.

I think this is why you can't give up and I think Pope John Paul II says it best: Those who perceive in themselves... the artistic vocation as poet, writer, sculptor, painter, musician, and actor feel at the same time an obligation not to waste this talent but to develop it, in order to put it to service of their neighbour and the humanity as a whole.

I hope 2011 is wonderful for you in every way.

  12. Bish, we've all been there, lady. And you're NEVAH too old. Keep fighting. We're with ya. And no one could leave your blog. It's just too DANG good. ;)

Now that I have played cheerleader. (Never was one in school. I was a hippie.)

Nick is an amazing guy. Hey, you need inspiration? Let me send you a pic of my son Christopher. (((hugs))) sweet girlfriend. (I rather love the pity parties that I throw, too.)

  13. LOL Bish, you are not a whiner! You're a writer! We all have doubts and dark days when our goals seem impossible. I think you're taking healthy steps to preserve your love of writing and I know you will be successful. You have some wonderful talent and much to give others!

  15. That video is amazing. He's amazing, and so are you. Don't let anyone tell you you're too old. I mean seriously, there are people in their 90s getting published for the first time. Age is no barrier.

I'm glad to hear you're still doing the mentorship. That's such an awesome prize.

    Have a GREAT writing year!!

  16. Here's to Boomer whining!!!!! Do what you need to do, Bish, but if you're going to quit your goal to be published, please do so because there are other things you want to explore, not because of age. (I struggle with this constantly!)

  17. Here's to what everybody else said -- and the resilience and stubborn determination of Baby Boomers!

I loved that video. If you ever want to read an inspiring book, read Hirotada Ototake's 'Nobody's Perfect' (Gotai Fumanzoku in Japanese). Ototake was born without arms or legs too, and never let anything stop him.

  18. Happy New Year, Bish!

Don't worry about visiting blogs. I can only do that between the kids, working, and writing so I don't visit as much as I'd like to. We're all still here.

    That video...

  19. We all need a nudging reminder that we are not alone in this world with hardships and severe disabilities. Thanks for the nudge.
