Due to a complication or two (nothing that couldn't be fixed after throwing some $$ after it) following the first few test drives, she's been sitting in the garage for a while and got a layer of dust on her.
But yesterday we took her out for our first REAL drive. By real I mean we went more than just around the block. We drove all around town (about three times!) and we even went out on the interstate and punched her. Dare I tell you how fast we went even if only momentarily? (We got up to 90!) In all we put about 60 miles on her and she ran like the champ she is.
Here she is in front of her favorite parts store shining in the sun.
Stan got understandably emotional and teary eyed. After all he's been working on Sweet Abilene for ten years and has been dreaming of the day we could drive her into town for a long, long time.
Could there be a better Christmas present than this?
Abilene is such a cool car. I'm glad to hear you were able to take her out for a drive. My sister used to have a 55 Chevy, so I know she'd love Abilene. :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Hope that any future stops in front of her "favorite parts store" will only be for such simple things as sparkplugs, brake supplies and grooming equipment!
ReplyDeleteGreat car and am looking forward to my ride!
YAY! What a beauty. And you both should be proud (like parents) because it's a gorgeous car and a huge accomplishment to get her going.
ReplyDeleteCongrats and I wish you many happy miles with no complications.
Take a ride around the block for me! :D

You lucky duck! I have been in love with '57 chevy's since I was fourteen years old. This is my dream car. So glad you had such a nice Christmas gift. I'll bet that was fun going on the interstate!
ReplyDeleteShe's beautiful! Glad you and your husband had a great Christmas...
