Insecure Writer's Support Group

The brainchild of Alex Cavanaugh, the
purpose of the Insecure Writer's Support Group is to share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting is the first Wednesday of every month.

This is my second time to participate. I would have been here last month, but health issues got in the way.

I bet a lot of people are doing NaNo this month which means there may not be as many visitors to our blogs as usual. So let's not get insecure about that!

I'll tell you what I'm insecure about. I'm right on the edge... I mean I'm like THIS CLOSE to self-publishing my book ANANSI AND COMPANY.

I've had wonderful help getting him ready from many different people.

Anne Gallagher has answered every question I could think of and then some.

Adrienne Saldivar did the incredible cover and stunning illustrations.

Nicole Zoltack  helped with line editing.

L. Diane Wolfe helped with formatting.

And these four FABULOUS PEOPLE have given me the most wonderful endorsements anyone could ask for:

C. Lee McKenzie, Joy Campbell, Angela Ackerman and Robyn Campbell.

Everyone has told me the stories are great. They've been nothing but encouraging.

So... how could I possibly still feel insecure? Take it from me, a perennial introvert, I do. I have sometimes felt so insecure, so afraid, that I've thought about chucking the whole project.

But I've plowed/am plowing through the insecurities because on a blog somewhere I read, "You doubt because you care." And because Hillel the Elder said, "If not now, when?"

Soon, my faithful Random Followers, Anansi will make his debut to the world.

  4. These stories are fresh and unique, Bish! I hope many, many people discover and love them.

I wish I could tell you how not to feel this way, but it is part of the package. For me it was worse with our second release than the first, mainly because the ET was well received and I was terrified we would let people down with the next release--second/third book jitters!

Control what you can and do the best job you can, and then let go of the things you have no control over. :) Then LEAP and feel pride that you were able to do so!

  8. Ooo, that is so exciting, Bish! What a wonderful cover. From what I hear, all writers, no matter how many books they've published, feel insecure when their book is coming out. You're in great company!

Happy reading and writing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines

  10. Blogger ate my comment. :( In essence, what you're going through now is what you'll go through if you get to a tenth publication. It's part of what makes us human and our insecurities help keep us humble.

That said, I'm wishing you lots of sales when Anansi comes out.

  12. Hi Bish,

Now then, time for one of my um, eagerly waited for comments. Or something like that.

You are going to be just fine with your book. All the help and encouragement you have had bodes well for you, Bish.

And yet, "perennial introvert", you have the courage to challenge your anxieties. You prove that with your blog and your transparency. Well done and keep going.
