The Month That Was

May...  I thought I'd be chillaxing while I was away. HA! Bad, good and sad things happened to make it one of those months I'm glad  is behind me. We've all had them, months roiling with emotional roller coaster rides.

The Bad
As some of you may know, at the beginning of May I got pretty sick and was in the hospital for three nights and four days. I'm fine, back to my normal self, but it's amazing how much wind that took out of my sails.

The Good
Despite the above I finished the book I've been working on for the novel writing course I'm taking through The Institute of Children's Literature. It has been an incredible challenge and journey because I stepped WAY out of my comfort zone with an idea that's been pecking at me for at least ten years. My instructor heaped praises on my head with statements like this one: "When I say I’m thrilled with what you’ve accomplished that is an understatement. This is a powerful, powerful and resonating story."

Her encouragement has kept me going through the revisions -- the part I have the most trouble with, that I like the least. Despite that, the first half of the novel is almost done.

The Sad
In Memory of Ursa
October 2001-May 2013
A Zen dog without equal who taught us many wonderful things. Ears like velvet, she was one hundred pounds of pure love and adoration. She never got into an argument with another dog, nor was there a person she didn't like. We were blessed and are very thankful to have had her in our lives.
We will never forget her.
May she run free in the Elysian Fields.

Dare I ask? How was your May?

  1. Wow, what an up and down kind of month for you. I am very sorry to hear about Ursa. May was surreal. My first book came out, which takes the cake, but there were other, smaller, wonders as well.
Can't wait to hear more about your book!

  2. Thanks for visiting my blog.

May was awful for me, too, but I didn't lose a pet. So sorry for your loss. My Maisey is getting older. She's such a great dog. I don't want to even think about her leaving us. :(

  3. So sorry for the loss of your canine friend. One of our dogs is Ursa's opposite ... doesn't like many other dogs or people. And barks like a lunatic. But he's also funny and sweet. Sigh.

In May I caught up with everything I let slide in March and April.

    Congrats on completing your book!

  5. It's so, so tough losing a dog friend. They really earn their title of man's best friend. Glad there's been good stuff amid the hard stuff.

  6. What a roller coaster of a month for you! So sorry you were in the hospital and big hugs to you in the loss of your dog. Dogs are such loving, loyal family members.

I'm so glad you had a positive in that month with your writing, Bish!

My May was crazy busy but with fun events like my son's 8th grade graduation and other son's first communion and end of school year craziness.
I hope you have a fabulous June!!

  8. Hi, Bish,

I'm glad that you're back and that you've accomplished much of what you set out to do.

Pets that are part of our families for long periods are sorely missed when they pass.

  13. Dear Bish, I was so sorry to read about Ursa. I know your hearts must be broken. In the past, we have had the joy of living with four different dogs. Their leaving is always the hardest thing to deal with.
I’m glad you are feeling better. Exciting news about your book, well done you!
No real highs or lows for us in May and that’s just how we like it!
