Alternatives for A lot and Six Impossible Things

Alternatives is a recurring post in which I give synonyms for an over used word. Click on the tab above for a "complete" list of over used words.

Today's word is:

And now, for your amusement,  in which I think of Six Impossible Things before breakfast.

1. Going fishing with my dad. It's his birthday today. Were he alive he'd be 95. That's us in our boat the FDO (Father's Day Off.) He's all greasy after a long day working at our Mobil gas station. I thought he was the handsomest man alive.
2. Catching a bullet with my teeth
3. Understanding infinity
4. Discovering a new color
5. Watching the pyramids being built
6. Seeing a real life brontosaurus

Your turn. Tell me something impossible.

  1. Knitting fog :-)

Every girl should have reason to look at her Daddy the way you are looking at yours.

  2. Okay, having looked again I'm guessing you're looking at something else, but my previous comment still stands :-)

  3. Wow, you certainly came up with a lot of examples! At least a lot is better than alot.

  4. Oh. My. Gosh! What a great post - - especially the part about your dad!! Love it. :0)

  5. I like to use the word plethora, although it doesn't really mean 'a lot.'
And I don't think discovering a new color is impossible. Have you visited your local hardware store and looked at paint colors?

  6. Great list. I can think of a few grittier choices, like crapload and its counterparts. I'm a fan of "loads" because it's more British. :-) Lurve the pic of you with your dad. Definitely leading man material!

BTW, I at last answered your grammar question on my blog.

  7. That's a beautiful picture and I can see you adoring your father. He is very handsome, a perfect match for your mother.

    Something impossible:
    Get my house organized today.

Actually, nothing is impossible with God.

  8. When I was in elementary school,I kid you not, the word "alot" was in our spelling list one week, by which I mean it appeared in an actual mainstream-published textbook/workbook speller. It took me a few years to realize it wasn't a word. I have a friend who was in that same class who still doesn't know.

I cannot see "a lot" without thinking of this. You've sent me back to the past in more than one way with this post. :)

  9. "discovering a new color" wow, that's good. I often wonder how someone born blind envisions colors.
I am always so enchanted by the way you grew up and that photo really captures the closeness and fun you've written about.

  10. Thanks very much for the synonyms, and, as for something impossible, I'm beginning to think that getting through my Google Reader of posts I haven't read before I go to bed tonight can be classed under that ;).
