Plutarch wrote biographies of the Roman emperors as well as Alexander the Great. Much of his work is still in existence which is pretty amazing when you consider he lived between 46 CE and 126 CE.
I don't need a friend who changes when I change and nods when I nod. My shadow does that much better.
Isn't this what we hope to find in a good critique partner or beta reader?
I'm looking for a few good beta readers. If you like, know about or are interested in MG, I'm on the hunt, I'm after you.
Which, oddly enough, reminds me of "Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran. Liked the song but never really understood the words. They surprised me. Read along as they sing.
Dark in the city night is a wire
Steam in the subway earth is afire
Do do do do do do do dodo dododo dodo
Woman you want me give me a sign
And catch my breathing even closer behind
Do do do do do do do dodo dododo dodo
In touch with the ground
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
Smell like I sound
I'm lost in a crowd.
And I'm hungry like the wolf.
Straddle the line in discord and rhyme
I'm on the hunt I'm after you.
Mouth is alive with juices like wine
And I'm hungry like the wolf
Stalked in the forest too close to hide
I'll be upon you by the moonlight side
Do do do do do do do dodo dododo dodo
High blood Drumming on your skin it's so tight
You feel my heat
I'm just a moment behind
Do do do do do do do dodo dododo dodo
In touch with the ground
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
Scent and a sound.
I'm lost and I'm found
And I'm hungry like the wolf.
Strut on a line it's discord and rhyme
I howl and I whine I'm after you
Mouth is alive all running inside
And I'm hungry like the wolf.
Hungry like the wolf
Hungry like the wolf
Hungry like the wolf
Burning the ground
I break from the crowd
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
I smell like I sound.
I'm lost and I'm found
And I'm hungry like the wolf
Strut on a line it's discord and rhyme
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
Mouth is alive with juices like wine
And I'm hungry like the wolf
What are your favorite lines? Mine are: "Straddle the line in discord and rhyme," and "Mouth is alive with juices like wine." Ooooooo.
Lovely quote by Plutarch.
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about YA/Children's books but if you need a new, objective eye, I'm here for you, Bish!
Judy (South Africa)
I'll beta read - although I have zero experience. Let me know. And we can see what we'll do.

Hey, that Plutarch was a good-looking guy. Wish he had more of a nose though.
ReplyDeleteIf you want, I can take a stab at beta-reading for you. I've done more than my fair share, should you need references. Even YA.
You know where to find me.
I love that quote about wanting friends, not shadows. And I can beta read if you want, but don't expect too much . . . is there a beta reader etiquette list somewhere on the web?
ReplyDeleteTalk about one's work having longetivity--those Greek guys had what it takes!

Tossing It Out
I studied Plutarch for a short time in school. He was an interesting fellow.
ReplyDeleteGood luck finding a beta reader :)
OMG, I loved Duran Duran. I totally had a girl crush on them as a teen. :)
ReplyDeleteThis quote is exactly what makes each of us unique as critters. Everyone has different strengths, and together several viewpoints can do amazing things for a MS!

That's a fantastic quote, and so true when it comes to crit partners. I love honesty when it comes to crits; I don't need things sugar-coated. I really think it's the only way to get better.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
You're so cute! I really like that friend quote, too... SO true. Good luck finding an MG partner!

"I'll be upon you by the moonlight side..." The image that line creates is incredible.
ReplyDeleteGreek philosophers were such individuals, and functioning at a time when norther Europe was living in caves and wearing fur capes. Isn't that amazing? Susan
I love that quotes! And I totally agree. I want friends who challenge me and make me think.
ReplyDeleteI have never read the lyrics to Hungry Like the Wolf before. CREEPY.
Great quote! And so true.
ReplyDeleteAnd I haven't thought about that Duran Duran song in a long time. Too funny.
good luck in finding beta readers! Great quote too.
ReplyDeleteI used to absolutely love Duran Duran - what a blast from the past! :)
ReplyDeleteI grew up in the time of Duran Duran, loving them before most people since I had a roommate in college who brought their albums over from Europe. As I read these lines, for the first time, because I never really knew what they were saying, I can't help but think of the crazy lines we're hearing coming out of Charlie Sheen. I mean, really? Tiger blood? Adonis DNA? He has such an interesting way of speaking -- kind of a cross between a poet and a valley girl and a crackhead. Thanks for bringing back to my college days with those lyrics.
