Joe Cocker

To day is Joe Cocker's birthday. He was born in 1944, which makes him 65 today.

I happen to like Joe. I love his gravelly bluesy voice. I love how he never seemed to care how he looked as he preformed, throwing his whole body behind his voice. I know there were many of us in the early days who thought maybe he had cerebral palsy.

In 1969 there was a brief moment, a tiny window of opportunity, when I could have gone to Woodstock. A part of me is glad I didn't make it. Another part of me wishes I had. As it is, I know several people who were there and they all say basically the same thing.

"I had a far-out fantastic good time. And I don't remember a thing."

So here he is singing his signature song,
With a Little Help From My Friends.

But just what the heck was he singing? Someone has finally figured it out. Here's the translation.

  1. I love Joe Cocker.
Funny what your friends have to say about Woodstock...and a little sad.

  4. My sister just asked me a few days ago if I'd seen the Joe Cocker at Woodstock clip. I hadn't and forgot to google it. And here it is!
I don't think he was drinking water from that cup... :)

  5. Oh my gosh. I just about lost it. What about this turbine? That was awesome. And that was also why one of my parents' rules for me as a child was "Stay away from the hippies."
